Gifts of Stock

A gift of stock may be more tax-wise than a cash gift. Donations of stock can be made at any time and designated to a project of your choice. Shares of stock are fully tax dedictible. Stocks can be deposited directly into Richmond Metro Habitat for Humanity's account at Davenport & Company. For more information, contact E. Otto N. Williams, Jr. at 804-780-2024 or 800-846-6666, or call Brad Herbst, Director of Finance,  at brad@richmondhabitat.org .

Benefits of Giving Stock

A gift of stock (or other appreciated property) entitles you to a tax deduction for the market value of the donated stock (not just your cost basis). If the stock you wish to donate has been held for more than one year, you can avoid capital gains tax on any appreciation of the stock by donating the stock prior to sale. Richmond Habitat benefits by selling the stock without paying taxes on the gain, and you benefit from making a contribution that would be larger than what you might have been able to donate in cash.

Land and Homes

Richmond Habitat needs land on which to build! If you have a lot or tract of land, or know of an organization that has excess land, call Lin Gregory, Director of Construction Services,  at 232-7001 or email lin@richmondhabitat.org. With escalating costs of land, Richmond Habitat is very dependent on your generosity. Help us keep our homes affordable and ensure the future availability of land. All land donations are tax deductible; donors are encouraged to seek professional advice prior to making a donation.

You can donate to Richmond Habitat through United Way and similar groups.
