In October of 2012 we completed a brand new build in the Sandston area of Henrico County! The family is now in their home and loving every minute of it!
Chevelle is a single mother of six children ranging in age from 4 to 18. While Chevelle was growing up, her family lived in Section 8 housing and continually moved because of evictions, making her home life unstable and unsafe.
Currently she and her children are living in a small, three bedroom rental home with lots of safety hazards. Each summer the bathroom smells of sewage and Chevelle is concerned the condition of the home could affect the health of her children. Chevelle wants nothing more than to provide her own children with the safety and stability she never had as a child.
Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity is helping her achieve that stability for her children. Once her home is built, Chevelle will move into a safe, affordable, brand new home where she will pay a 0% interest mortgage, saving her a lot of money. She is currently gaining the tools she needs to thrive as a homeowner by attending eight mandatory homeownership and financial literacy courses and is diligently completing 350 hours of “sweat equity” volunteering at our ReStore and helping to build her own home.
Without generous donations from people like you, families like Chevelle’s would never be able to experience the joy of owning their own home.
